Updated: 26th February 2023

When you think of a holiday in Bali, probably your first thought is of backpackers or a romantic couple retreat lying by the pool. But Bali can be the perfect place for a family holiday with the kids. It’s an ideal island where families return year after year because the kids have so much fun.

If you’re coming to Bali with the kids and want to stay in Canggu, there are loads of entertainment options to keep them entertained while the adults can do some of the things they like to do, such as relaxing by the pool in their own private  Canggu villa, shopping, sightseeing or topping up their tan at the beach.

Don’t think travelling with the kids has to be stressful either – there are some great options for family-friendly activities in Canggu.

Canggu is fast becoming one of the most popular places to stay in Bali, with luxurious villas, trendy cafes, bars, yoga studios, gyms, health food organic cafes catering to the health-conscious, restaurants and a relaxed, chilled-out atmosphere. Our recommendations for keeping your kids busy and happy (a very important factor in a family holiday) can be found below.

What to do with the kids in Canggu

1. Finns Recreation Club

Splash Water Park is located in the Finns Recreation Club and has a range of fantastic slides and facilities that will keep the kids entertained for hours. Possibly the thought of a water park sounds hectic and crazy, but Splash is the perfect size to keep an eye on the kids while you plonk down on a sunbed. There are also trained lifeguards on duty at all times to help keep an eye on things. The Giant Racing Slide should be enough for your little adrenaline junkies. At five storeys high, four lanes across and 90 metres long, this slide even allows you to time yourself to see how fast you’ve gone. There is a range of slides for smaller kids, a giant playground swimming pool and even a swinging rope. Best of all, the queues are usually small or non-existent! The Park has a range of food outlets with some healthier options, so staying there all day is easy.

2. Bounce Bali

Also located in the Finns Recreation Club, Bounce Bali is Bali’s first trampoline centre dedicated to fun… and wearing out the kids! The trampolines have specially designed spring-loaded frames, so the bounce is higher than on your usual backyard trampoline. Thick safety pads cover all the springs and frames, so you can relax knowing the kids are relatively safe. Catering for all ages, the centre is a great option for a fun day out. Sessions start every hour on the hour, so best to plan your arrival to avoid waiting around. There is a café upstairs, so you can grab a bite to eat.

3.  Strike Ten Pin Bowling

You can’t beat Ten Pin bowling for good old-fashioned family fun on rainy days! Strike is located at the Finns Recreation Club, so again, an easy option for when you’re staying in Canggu. Air-conditioned and with a restaurant and bar, it’s a great option day or night. There are 6 lanes, all with automatic pinsetters and computerized scoring. With only 6 lanes, it’s a good idea to book ahead to avoid disappointment or waiting around (never a good thing with kids in tow). Socks are compulsory, but they are available to purchase – as, let’s face it, you will probably all be in thongs!

4.  Bali Equestrian Centre

Although this is an elite equestrian centre with state-of-the-art facilities, they offer pony rides and day camps for the kids or family rides to the beach – so this is a great option for a day out. Also, when you return, there’s a pool, restaurant and playground. There’s a great cafe next door called Breakfast Club where you can take the kids for a feed after some hectic horse riding.

5. Echo & Old Man’s Beach

Like most family holidays in Bali, you will want beach time, and you can get loads of it at Echo Beach. Rent a longboard and paddle out at Old Man’s beach, as this is a gentle wave if you are a beginner surfer.

6. Parklife

Parklife is in the Pererenan part of Canggu with a large play area for the kids to run wild and in the safe and watched playground. With a huge bouncy castle (wait till the kids see this), jungle gym, a mini beach and even an outdoor cinema, it’s family-friendly fun at Park Life. There’s also a cafe where adults can chill out, watch their kids run around, and expend all that extra holiday energy. Parklife has a fantasy feel about it, and they have put a lot of effort into creating a wonderful space for children to explore and have fun, all under the supervision of trained child carers.
