BAKED

BAKED is one of those restaurants, well, let’s call it a bakery, where the queues are the whole day. Any why, because of the croissants, creamy poached eggs, and hand-made fresh-out-of-the-oven sourdough bread, scrumptious bagels are to die for. BAKED has become so popular that there are now two locations; one in the heart of Berawa and one in the upcoming Pererenan area. Remember, you can always take these oh-so-yummy bagels or banana bread back to your Canggu holiday villa for a mid-afternoon munch-out session. The vibe at BAKED is fun, young and super-casual and makes the perfect pit stop after an early morning surf session at Berawa Beach or surviving the Canggu shortcut on your scooter. Prices are easy on the wallet and make a great venue to take the kids for brunch or late arvo refuel. Oh yes, they happen to have amazing coffee as well!

This traditional Italian evening is all about slowing down and really taking the time to enjoy the food and meet people. A housemade limoncello will be served throughout the night. Skool Kitchen

If you want an extraordinary dining experience and be at one of Bali’s hippest and most happening locations, Batu Bolong Beach, then for a treat, head to Skool Kitchen at The Lawn. The space is private and intimate, which adds to the backdrop of the waves crashing in the background. Expect to be treated to fine five-star dining as you sample fresh, tasty cuisine, wine and cocktails. Skool Kitchen is where you come for the views, the ambience and the famous The Lawn (for some after partying). Expect pure, simple cuisine where every dish is cooked with natural wood and charcoal embers. Skool is a collaboration between Tai Buddha (The Lawn, Times, Single Fin) and Adam McAsey (Bikini, Sisterfields, Bossman), so you know the experience will be memorable as these guys have created restaurant and cafe institutions in Bali. If you’re staying in Seminyak is worth your while to make the trip over to Canggu for the experience, and if you are in the Canggu area, make a booking, as you will love the dining experience.  We recommend the crispy pork belly, pickled mustard seeds and the Chocolate Martini.

The Avocado Factory

Who doesn’t love smashed avo on toast? If it was up to me, I’d eat it all day, every day. I can’t get enough of those fantastic avocados, and in Bali, the only place to go for your avocado fix is The Avocado Factory in Canggu Bali. It’s in the Batu Bolong area on the way to Echo Beach, so it’s the perfect place to stop for your avo refuel after your mid-morning surf or walk on the beach. The Avocado Factory has done everything possible with the good old avo. Avocado burgers, avo smoothie bowls, and why not add those delish avos into a dipping sauce with your bread? It’s The Gu’s (as we Bali locals like to call Canggu) first avocado restaurant, super-popular overlooking the ricefields (or what’s left of them) and the busy road connecting Batu Bolong with Batu Mejan. You’ll be pleased to know that all avocados are locally produced from Bali or Java and are thick and creamy, oozing with healthy goodness. Make sure you try sourdough toast with Avo for brekkie, the Avo poke bowl for lunch, and dessert as a treat. Have an avo good day fresh juice. Take the kids, as this is a very family-friendly restaurant. The whole place is about avos, so if you love them as much as I do, it’s a must-visit on your Canggu restaurant bucket list.

Butterman in Berawa is located at one of the busiest intersections (shortcuts – between Berawa and Umalas) in Canggu. A new entrant onto the Canggu restaurant scene, Butterman is one of the most popular (if not the most popular) bakeries/cafes. The place is packed from morning to late afternoon with ex-pats, locals, and holidaymakers all wanting to try their freshly baked loaves of bread, croissants, paninis, and delish scrambled Iberico chorizo (Pork) eggs. In addition, you’ll love the pork belly baguettes, range of toasties and coffee. Check out the video below to see the vibe and after that, get a go-jek and make your way here for a spot of lunch, late brekkie or pick-me-up coffee as you cruise around Canggu on your Vario scooter.

Warung Gouthe

If you like your meats, kebabs, skewers of freshly BBQ meats and chicken, then Warung Gouthe is the best place to water your taste buds. Their brochettes are well-marinated; you can choose from beef, chicken, pork, tuna and octopus. They call it a warung, but the prices are not warung local, but well worth it as the food is fresh and the portions are very generous. If you love your meat skewers and want to be in a super busy place, Gouthe is worth visiting. It’s family-friendly, and the kids will love the delicious dishes. TIGA

Tiga is not your average restaurant. It’s more like a buffet where you can choose your dishes (both Western and Indonesian) as delish, and they display the well-presented food in front of you. Be tempted by their salads, sates, kinds of pasta, yummy schnitzels, and vegan dishes. Located on Jalan Nelayan, Tiga has crowds streaming in looking for Canggu’s healthiest and freshest food. Tiga is an evolution of Satu and Dua (in Umalas) and is busy the whole day. You can also order from their a la carte menu. We love the Tom Yum soup, Nasi Goreng or salmon. Most people who come to Tiga are staying local or are fresh out of the nearby gyms and looking for a well-priced and very casual place to refuel.

When anyone mentions cafes in Berawa or Canggu, Milk and Madu are the first that pops to mind. It’s the most popular cafe in Canggu by a mile, and everyone comes here for the yummy breakfasts, delicious lunches and well-priced dinners for the family. Located on Pantai Berawa, most people come from their Canggu holiday villa close to Milk and Madu. They even trek from Seminyak or Umalas because of its fabulous reputation. It also has a kiddie’s playground so the adults can have some downtime while enjoying their food. There is a second Milk and Madu on Jalan Batu Bolong for your post-morning beach walk coffee fix or a cuppa. We recommend the chia pudding or the boss omelette for breakfast, and for lunch, try the barra fish burger (how yummy)!! And, for dinner, take the troops here to share pizzas.

Penny Lane

Penny Lane, just off Jalan Batu Bolong, is the place to be seen, and as soon as you enter, you’ll know why with its fantastic architecture, excellent tapas menu, cocktail list and, of course, food for the kids. The restaurant has an airy open-plan feel with artwork and vintage chandeliers. So it’s no wonder the hip, cool, and uber-trendy Canggu holidaymakers and ex-pats flock here for the jumbo burgers, delish fries, yummy cocktails and super-sized portions. We love the Morrocan Burranumdi and the huge double Angus burgers and share a plate of yummy golden fried calamari. The supercharged schnitzels are amazing!!

Head chef Lisa Maalouf cooks the same delicious stuff at the restaurant as she cooks for her family every day – that’s how authentic it is. Lebanese food is good for sharing! Zali is a lovely place to gather, sharing food, stories and happiness. All the food is made with the freshest ingredients. The Mezzeh platters are great if you want to try a little bit of everything.
