Canggu, Bali used to be a quiet sleepy surfer village area but is now but is now one of the most popular tourist areas of Bali. Move over Seminyak and Ubud; Canggu is the new kid on the block, jam-packed with hip cafes, vegan restaurants, cool shops, amazing waves, sun-tanned bods, slick gyms, dessert bars, great beach clubs and cool vibes.

If you are wondering what the best attractions are for holidaymakers staying in a Canggu villa, the following are just a few to kickstart your holiday.

1) Sunset cocktails on the beach. Head to some of Bali’s best beach clubs like The Lawn, Old Man’s, La Brisa, Finns or the massive Atlas Beach Fest and enjoy fine dining, great music, fun times and lazy days soaking up the sun, sipping cocktails, and gazing and all the beautiful people. And, yes, the beach views are stunning.

2) Cafe hop. Canggu has an overload of hip cafes where you can enjoy a post-surf breakfast, lunch with the family or a casual dinner. For starters, head to Deus ex Machina or perhaps some coffee at the popular Revolver at the top of the Canggu short-cut. Other popular cafes tourists love in Canggu are Shady Shack, Milk and Madu and let’s not forget the ultra-popular Crate for the best salad bowls in Bali.

3) Head to the gym. Tone up those bodies, slim down, and work up a sweat at some of Canggu’s best gyms that are popular with holidaymakers. Most gyms are fully air-conditioned, but some are open-air, so expect to sweat it out. Some of the most popular gyms are Bull Gym, SOMA, Bali MMA, The Wrong Gym (yes, the name is right) and Obsidian.

4) Finns Recreation Club. If you think the kids will get bored, then don’t, as there’s always the Finns Recreation Club to keep them happy with waterslides, ten-pin bowling, a huge indoor trampoline centre and for the adults there’s a bar, gym and private pool. Spend the day here relaxing as the kids burn off steam and energy, and you can relax, chill out and enjoy some holiday downtime.

5) Explore the area. Canggu still has gorgeous, quiet areas like Cemagi and Seseh Beach, where you can explore and get some Instagrammable rice field photos. Renting a scooter, getting lost, and asking locals for directions are the best ways to explore all the hidden alleys, small villages, and quant warungs (local restaurants) in Canggu. So much fun!!

6) Go for a surf. Head to the Rivermouth area of Echo Beach for some of the best waves in Bali. And, for beginners, there’s Old Man’s, where you can hire boards and instructors by the hour. Other notable beach breaks great for surfers of all levels are Berawa, Batu Belig and Nelayan.

The main area of Canggu is known as Jalan Batu Bolong, Batu Mejan and Jl Pantai Berawa, where there are many shops, cafes, bars, beach clubs, day spas, ATMs, supermarkets, money changers, gyms and restaurants. Canggu also extends to new epicentres like Seseh, Cemagi and the vibrant area of Pererenan. It’s well worth visiting these enclaves as they all have a slightly different vibe and are still slightly less developed than central Canggu so that you can get a keyhole peep into Canggu of bygone days.

Canggu Villas With a Private Chef – What to Expect

Having a private chef in your private Canggu villa is a real treat and means the chef is there full-time to prepare meals for you, your family or your friends. Most chefs will have experience in other villas, resorts, or hotels around Bali and are professionally trained, meaning all the meals will be tasty, freshly made and prepared to the highest standards. 

When having meals at the villa, you should note that meals are generally prepared at set times like breakfast, lunch or dinner, where everyone comes together and enjoys the meals at the dining table. Many villas work this way, but there are times when the chef can whip up a quick nasi goreng or hamburger for hungry kids who want a quick snack. But, all ingredients must be purchased and paid for by the guests. If you want a special event like a birthday party, family celebration, or BBQ night, it’s best to give the chef a day’s notice so they can buy and prepare the food.

Most villas in Canggu will cook local Balinese or Indonesian dishes like Nasi Campur, but most guests will want Western-style meals, which are also easy to cook.

The Grocery System

Many villas have a private chef (meaning that the cost of the chef is included in the nightly rate), but for the actual food, this will operate off a grocery system where you are asked to provide some money when you arrive so the chef can go and buy the food when needed. All receipts for all food purchases made will be given to the guests. Alternatively, some villas have a set-priced menu for lunch and dinner where you can choose dishes very much like a restaurant at a per guest rate. Most Canggu villas are near some large supermarkets like Pepito, Frestive and Canggu Station, so you can do some shopping if you prefer and take it back to the villa and do your own cooking. If breakfast is included in your nightly rate, the chef will give you the menu options the night before, and you can choose from Western, Continental or Indonesian breakfasts. If you want to have a BBQ night, ask the villa manager, who will be able to arrange this for you. Extra per-person fees will apply.

Canggu is great for families with many cafes and restaurants and family entertainment such as the Finns Recreation Club and the beach where you can surf.

Although best known for its surfie vibe, cafe culture, and beach clubs, Canggu is also very family-friendly.

Things to do with kids in Canggu.

Surf lesson. Parents can take the kids to beaches like Echo, Old Man’s, Berawa and Pererenan for a surf lesson.

Cafes. Many family-friendly cafes in Canggu have burgers, fries, pizzas and the usual food that kids love. Most beach clubs like Finns, La Brisa, and Atlas Beach Fest will have a kiddies’ menu, and some cafes in Berawa and central Canggu, like Milk and Madu, have separate playground areas for the kids.

Horse riding. The Bali equestrian centre has pony and horse riding for the kids.

Finns Recreation Club. Take the whole family for a fun day out at the Finns Recreation Club, which has waterslides, ten-pin bowling, and a massive indoor trampoline centre called Bounce.

ParkLife. Toddlers will love the activities at ParkLife, which is a must-visit for parents with young ones under five years of age. From your initial inquiry to your last day at the villa, you are looked after by a dedicated account manager in Bali. This person is your ‘go-to’ person for anything you need, including airport pick-up for you and your guests.

Most villas will include a free airport pick-up at the nightly rate. We will let you know about this when you inquire. If you are travelling with many guests arriving at Bali airport at different times, we can arrange airport pick up, but this may incur an additional fee as most villas allow for one airport pick up.

If the airport pick-up is not included in the nightly rate, we can arrange this and quote you when booking the villa. Your driver in a van will meet you at the airport and take you directly to your villa. If you prefer, you can arrange your transport as you will have the villa address and villa manager’s phone number in case you get lost. We strongly advise you to use our free airport pick-up service, which makes life much easier without worrying about arranging a taxi in a busy airport after a long flight.

If this is your first trip to Bali, Denpasar airport may seem chaotic with so many tourists arriving and looking for their drivers. Rest assured, we will find you as we will have a large sign with your name on it.

Obviously, we want the very best Canggu accommodation for your holiday. In some very rare cases, circumstances change at the villa that are beyond our control, such as a new construction commencing next door, a loud dog nearby, or mould that hasn’t been attended to due to the rains. Please know that our goal is to provide you with the best possible experience, and we will do our best to address any issues that may arise that are within our control. Issues like construction noise cannot be altered, but rest assured we will endeavour to let you know if there is any type of building nearby and let you know before securing the villa. Canggu is experiencing in 2025 a tremendous building boom, and there may be noise. Most villa owners are prepared to offer a generous discount to compensate for this.

We encourage you to have a great time in your Canggu villa while on holiday in Bali. But if you intend to invite extra people into the villa for a celebration, birthday, wedding, or party, this will be outside the villa guidelines, and you may be charged extra for having an event. Please comply with these guidelines to avoid additional fees. Make sure you ask us about any events or parties you wish to put on when making your villa enquiry. Failure to disclose an event or party does not fly under the radar and will be noticed by the villa manager, housekeeping staff, or neighbours, so be very aware.

A good proportion of Canggu villas in gated estates will have their own villa security team working around the clock. But most of the individual villas will not, unfortunately, have security. However, if this is a primary concern for you because of your children, a security guard can be arranged when making the booking reservation and will be quoted on a daily basis.
