White Water Rafting In Bali

If you are tired of shopping and the absolute madness of the Kuta or Legian area and want to try something just that bit different, why not white water rafting. This exhilarating sport will get the heart racing, especially if you are in the rainy season when the rapids are at their peak.

The scenery is fantastic and you can get a real sense of the rice paddys and local environment as you paddle down the river.

Bali has 2 main rivers with rapids, that are ideal for the rafting experience. You can go to either the one on the Ayung River whilst the other, equally as good is at the base of Mt Agung on the Telaga Waja River.

The Ayung River is the most popular river in Bali for white water rafting. You can start north of Ubud and end near the Amandari hotel in the west.

Be taken in with the majesty of the surrounding countryside whilst you float down the river. All guides are experienced and safety is a prime concern with all tour operators. Just enjoy the thrill of the holiday and really get a feel for another aspect of the Balinese countryside.

Both the rivers cater for different travellers and offer something unique; Ayung is for the families and beginners wanting to vary their holiday experience and have a more relaxed time, whilst Telaga Waja is more for those wanting to experience a rush and adrenalin high. Be warned – if it’s the wet season you are going to really get a kick out of this!

Like with all things in Bali, there are heaps of tour operators who will be able to handle this for you. All you need to do is walk down the street and you will find a number of tour vendors offering white water rafting. Best go with a company that can pick up and drop you off at the hotel or villa – these normally start quite early so be prepared for a very full on day. You will most likely be collected at 6 am and be dropped off just before dinner at around the 5-6 pm mark. Getting to the main areas of racing in Ubud will take about 2 or so hours so be prepared for a bit of a hike in the morning. But, let me tell you that it’s well worth the drive.

With clothing, you have to pack very lightly – be prepared to get very wet so swimmers and boardies are a must! Carry a small back pack where you can store you valuables and money. Again note that you will be getting wet.

White water rafting in Bali is not overly expensive so if you want something that’s unique in Bali, give it a try.
