Shopping & eating in Canggu, see why it’s so popular

Canggu is now as popular as Seminyak.

The whole place is bursting with new shops, cafes, restaurants, bars and from the following video, you can see why the area of Canggu; from Batu Bolong right through to Batu Mejan at Echo Beach is now a shopper & foodies paradise.

Every time you go back to visit Canggu it seems as though there’s a new shopping village, shopping square or group of new villas being built. The growth rate is astonishing and i9t doesn’t seem as though it’s about to slow down any time soon. With great surf, picture-postcard views, black volcanic sandy beaches and peaceful back roads it’s no wonder shopping in Canggu is so popular

For most holidaymakers coming to Canggu is all about the beach and escaping the crowds of Seminyak. But, this is all changing with shops, day spas and loads of cafes popping up all over the place to cater for these tourists. That’s really how Bali works. Once the tourists decide to find a new area where they can still see the rice fields, others follow and then the boom in tourism starts as the word spreads!

This is exactly what has happened in Canggu but the beauty of Canggu is that it still retains loads of charm and an authentic Balinese feel. There are rice field views everywhere from Berawa right through to the areas of Pererenan, Seseh and the main central part of Canggu, Jalan Batu Bolong. There are designated green belts where development is not allowed so we can assume that these rice fields will stay preserving not only the Canggu environment but also the reason why people love it here.

For those travellers coming to Canggu and are thinking that there is not much going on in terms of places to eat or shop then, this video should put your mind at ease. I have counted at least 10 new cafes that have opened up in the last 6 months, not to mention new shops, day spas and bars.

Canggu has loads of places to stay and they all cater to different budgets and holiday styles. From homestays where backpackers can live with a Balinese family, hipster travellers that love the cafe culture that Canggu exudes, to families wanting to rent a Canggu villa near the beach.

Some great cafes in Canggu worth trying out include:

An extremely popular cafe just off Jalan Batu Bolong. Top food and a great vibe for 20 and 30 somethings wanting their smashed avo on toast or organic smoothie juice.

An institution in Canggu and serves well-priced meals

The name says it all with big portions at small prices. Definitely give this cafe a go!
