Sanur, what you need to know

On the East side of the island, Sanur has a quiet, mellow and relaxed feel with an abundance of private villas to choose from. It’s very popular with European tourist, has many top hotels and has a great beach for people watching, surfing and enjoying the sun. Sanur is ideal for people who want a different Bali experience, but still be close to restaurants, bars and tourist shops. It is a lot more chilled out and relaxed than other parts of the island.

Quick facts about Sanur

  • Located on the east coast of Bali and about 60 min drive from the airport and 90 minutes from Seminyak
  • Most popular with European tourists who love the vibe and the less hectic pace than other parts of the island like Seminyak and Legian
  • There are lots of restaurants, cafes, shops and bars in the main street. It’s not as quiet as most people think and the main tourist areas have loads of banks, money changers, convenience stores, pharmacies and everything you would expect from a main Bali destination.

Things to do in Sanur

  • The main attraction in Sanur is obviously the beach. This is where all the hotels are located as well as a selection of villas that have prime real estate on the beach. There is a pathway that runs for about 2 km along the entire length of the beach. Along this well trekked path is where you will found hundreds of local vendors selling souvenirs. It’s a fun walk and a great way to explore the beach and snap up a bargain at the same same.
  • Sanur is also the launch point for fast boats to the Gili Islands and Nusa Lembongan so if your planning to spend a few days on these islands your in the right place. Shopping in Sanur

  • Sanur is jam packed with stores, chic boutiques, antiquities, lovely art shops, and the list goes on and on. Its recently transformed from a sleepy fishing village into one of the most popular tourist hubs in Bali.
  • The central shopping zone in Sanur is made up of 3main roads; Jalan Tamblingan, Jalan Mertasari, and the Ngurah Rai bypass road. Here you will find  art galleries. Tamblingan Street and the huge Mertasari Street where you head to for your shopping experience. You will find everything here from surf shops right through to department stores, malls and up scale boutiques. It has something for everyone.

Family holiday time in Sanur

Obviously there is the beach which will keep the family entertained for days but if your travelling with kids there are other attractions in Sanur such as:

  • Bali Seawalker – see the marine life without the need for a scuba license.
  • Bali Kites Festival – generally between the months of July and August
  • Snorkelling –  take the kids out to the reef for a snorkel. There’s an array of marine life out here.
