Crate Cafe in Canggu, a quick tour

One of the most well known cafes in Canggu ( just off the super popular Jalan Batu Bolong area) is Crate Cafe. For those people that have never been to Canggu before then Crate is somewhat of an institution. It’s now known as LifesCrate.

It started out as a small cafe along Jalan Batu Bolong ( really a hole in the wall with a few crates for people to sit on ) catering to surfers and backpackers wanting a healthy and cheap meal.

The cafe has literally exploded in popularity which lead to the creation of the new Crate Cafe up the road and down a small gang with sensational Richfield views!! Who wouldn’t love it here?

They have now expanded into a full fledged cafe / restaurant that can cater for the masses of people & tourists that line up here to get a fresh smoothie or salad and that must have Instagram shot.

You can check out their menu here.

Most of the dishes at time of publishing this are Rp 55,000 which is about $5AUD which is sensational value. This is not really the reason why it’s so popular it’s because of the reputation it has and the massive Instagram following. The dishes are so Instagram worthy and most people end up taking a few photos and posting them.

Like most popular cafes in Bali, Crate is one travellers bucket list. No matter if your here for your first time and a newbie to Bali or are a local, Crate is a must see. It’s open from 7am to 3pm so it’s a breakfast and lunch option. There is parking outside but it does get full so you might have to wait a bit for a table, but it’s worth it.

Crate also has a gallery where you can see artwork from local artists – they say they want to make it a creative hub which is a great idea and just adds to the ambiance and hipster vibe.

For those that feel like a few drinks there is a new lounge area which is an addition to Crate. Here you can sip cocktails, have a glass of wine with your mates and enjoy the rice field views as the sun goes down ( the lounge area closes at 5pm). Perfect for an end of day drink after all your surfing, shopping and enjoying the amazing Canggu area.
