BEST VEGAN restaurants in Seminyak & Canggu
Amazing vegan restaurants in Seminyak, Canggu: Where to find plant-based yummy dishes & vegetarian-friendly cuisine you’re going to love!
Gone are the days of hippie hang out vegan restaurants & cafes where the only thing on the menu was alfalfa sprouts. Today even hardcore meat eaters wanna hit these fab vegan joints.
If you’re thinking about eating out in Canggu or Seminyak and you are a vegan or vegetarian please don’t stress as there are heaps of cafes and restaurants in these areas that are cheap and serve the most delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes. There are in fact so many vegetarian restaurants that I can only list a few of the very best we have tried. They are all open for breakfast, lunch and dinner so if you happen to be staying locally it’s worthwhile dropping in for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
They all serve local Balinese as well as western dishes and in most cases really close to one of the Bali villas your probably staying in. If you need to get there for dinner please ask one of our villa staff and they will be able to organise transport for you. If you are the adventurous type and have a scooter then getting there will be easy especially if you happen to be staying in one of our Canggu Villas or Seminyak Villas.
1. PELOTON Supershop in Berawa / Canggu
Here they have managed to combine a bike shop where you can actually purchase a bicycle and have some fantastic vegan dishes at the same time. It opened in Sept 2015 and has been a huge success ever since opening its doors. The reason why is the food…..it’s simply delicious so after a big surf or a day lazing around your villa or the beach get over to Peloton for their healthy salads, amazing health juice shots ( we had heaps of these) and of course the coffee. It’s a real buzzy hive of activity here with people coming and going with really positive energy – you will love it!
2. Nalu Bowls in Canggu and Seminyak and about 10 other areas all over Bali
This is a bit of a franchise or chain of healthy bars that are no bigger than holes in the wall or right next to popular restaurants or businesses. There is one Nalu Bowl bar tacked onto a famous restaurant in Berawa called Milk & Madu and there is one right next to the co-working space at Echo Beach where hipsters gather to work, check emails while enjoying a healthy bowl. Wherever you look in Bali now there seems to be one of these Nalu Bowl places cropping up. There is even one on the cliff face at Uluwatu. I actually had one right after a surf in Canggu and I can see why they are so popular. They are seriously delicious and very healthy. It’s a perfect breakfast or post work out / surf stop. It’s quick, no-frills and you will be eating your nutritious bowl of fruit, yoghurt within minutes. Plus its really good value for money.
3. Banana Leaf
When you have had your fair share of vegan health shots and smoothies and you want to tuck into some serious Thai cuisine then The Banana Leaf has the most delicious Thai vegetarian dishes that are absolutely mouth-watering. Go for the coconut green tofu curry – this is their signature dish.
4. Divine Earth
I love walking around Seminyak and stumbling into new cafes and when I came across this little gem I was in heaven. This is where you come to experience a new level in vegan cuisine where the chef has used only the freshest ingredients to cook some of the best vegan dishes in the whole of Bali ( soups, sandwiches, tacos, pizzas, you name it they have it) – this is really a place worth visiting. There is also a cinema upstairs where you can watch movies while having dinner. It’s a real family night out where everyone gets to enjoy themselves. From the photo below you can see they are playing the latest release films, so go on and enjoy yourself.
I know when you mention vegan food some people roll their eyes and want to give the restaurant a wide berth, but Divine Earths food is that good that I would even recommend it to non-vegans.
About a 5-minute drive from the hustle and bustle is Samadi. This is more like a yoga retreat and resort BUT they do have a restaurant where they do serve healthy homegrown delicious meals for those post-yoga workouts. Try the falafel salad. It’s in a lovely peaceful area away from the hordes of tourists in Canggu so well worth a visit. If you’re into yoga then this is a great place for a meal after a session of stretching. On Sundays, they have local markets here where you can buy fresh, organic produce.
6. KZU in Seminyak
While this is strictly not a vegetarian restaurant as they do serve meat and fish dishes I just wanted to add this to the list as the veggie meals they prepare are delicious. There are 2 convenient locations in Seminyak it’s busy all day. The food is seriously fresh and presented really well in a laid back and chilled out atmosphere. I love it not only because of the food but its locations make it an easy stop off for a quick feed.
7. Milu by Nook in Berawa / Canggu
This is a classic restaurant right in the rice fields of the chilled out area of Berawa. The food seems to come secondary to the views as people come here to sit & relax for hours just gazing out to the rice fields while enjoying some fantastic vegetarian dishes, salads and vegan Balinese dishes. This place is so popular so expect to wait for a table. It’s about a 10 min taxi ride from Seminyak but so worth it!
8. Ingka in Seminyak
These digs are fairly upmarket for your local easy going vegan restaurant and it’s probably one of the most glam you will go to. A bit on the pricey side but this is reflected in the food, service and ambience. There is a great outdoor seating area where you can enjoy some fabulous cuisine and vegan dishes. Make sure you try this out – it’s so worth it.
9. Give Cafe in Canggu
Organic cafe neatly tucked away in the popular Jalan Linjong, this plant-based organic, vegan cafe is all about giving back to the community and charities with the profits they make from the cafe. So if you want to give something back to the Balinese community head to Give Cafe and have a meal. It’s a fairly new cafe but it’s right next door to the Chili surfboards shop. The menu as you can see is a vegans delight & the prices are very reasonable too!
10. Warung Dua in Umalas
This is a new kid on the block and while not strictly in Seminyak, it’s close enough to make the list. The food is displayed so everyone can see it and you just pick what you want and the staff will add it to your plate. So many choices and a great variety of options for you vegans out there wanting to try great food in a very relaxed and no-frills place. Really well priced as well.
