Quick Canggu facts
Canggu is a sleepy area on the south west coast of southern Bali & is about a 45 min drive from the airport. It is most famous for its lovely surf beaches & attracts a daily cohort of keen and very enthusiastic surfers. Echo Beach (locally known as Pantai Batu Mejan) is a beautiful black-sand beach with advanced reef breaks and seafood cafes overlooking gorgeous sunsets from high up. Other popular beaches include Old Man’s, Berawa, Seseh and Pererenan – all with their unique surf-breaks, vibe & all within easy access to Canggu’s man shopping & dining area
Canggu has increased in popularity over the past decade & it is now considered a trendy spot for surfers and bronzed yogis who enjoy the laid back culture, health-conscious foods at the local Canggu cafes and restaurants in the main area known as Jalan Batu Bolong.
Make sure you walk up and down this street as it’s a foodies and shoppers paradise. It’s where everyone goes & its packed as there’s a local market right in the centre known as Love Anchor. You will notice that Canggu is expanding rapidly with new cafes & restaurants opening to cater for the burgeoning tourist market.
Canggu has a number of culturally important sites, such as the Hindu Temple, Pura Merajapati and the Pipitan Cemetery. There are two main temples along the beach: Pura Batu Bolong and Pura Batu Mejan. Bolong is a breathtaking tourist attraction which sits on a majestic rock face in the middle of the ocean.
Canggu’s rapid growth over the last couple of years has seen a significant rise in the number of tourists which in turn has lead to the development of some luxurious, family friendly holiday villas to cater for this ever growing demand.
People who are tired of the over hype and development of areas like Seminyak & Legian are now gravitating to Canggu as a new holiday destination where they can still see rice fields and green patches of land. It has a bohemian, hipster, friendly, eco conscious attitude unlike any other area in Bali. This is what draws in the crowds and travelers who all want to be part of this vibrant & eclectic scene.
With lots of great restaurants, health food shops (where you can stock up on your muesli, vegan produce & organic food) or cafes serving the most delicious smoothies through to cheap eats on the beach; Canggu is the ideal place to hang for a day, week or even longer. You will find spending time in Canggu is just the tonic your soul needs to recharge & re energise.

For the more advanced hit the river mouth at Echo beach or Pererenan where the waves are famous world wide. If you just want to visit Canggu for the day you can still stay in one of our Seminyak Villas or you can view our range of other family friendly Bali villas that are close to Canggu. In particular, our villas in Legian are only a 30 minute taxi / scooter ride away.
Our advise is to see Canggu now before it gets too crowded & over developed. It’s slowly happening but there are still lots of untouched pockets of scenic beauty that capture the true essence of Bali for you to enjoy. A couple of days in Canggu and your going to be hooked. It is an addictive area for everyone.
